OSHA’s updated recordkeeping rule expands the list of severe injuries and illnesses that employers must report to OSHA. As of January 1, 2015, all employers must report using the OSHA 300 log.

Due to these changes, the OSHA Recordkeeping Handbook is no longer current. The Handbook is replaced with Detailed Guidance for OSHA’s Injury and Illness Recordkeeping Rule. This follows the same format as the Handbook by providing existing agency approved policy, Frequently Asked Questions and the Letters of Interpretation. OSHA also provides a half day course to train those wishing to understand reporting requirements, and hands on activities on how to use the log book.

You can ask questions or report to OSHA by calling OSHA’s free and confidential number at 1-800-321-OSHA (6742).

OSHA Workplace Poster

OSHA provides free “it’s the law” posters to workplaces. All covered employers are required to display these posters within their work environment. If, however, you have a previous or older poster, you do not need to replace it. It is a requirement by OSHA that the posters are displayed in an area common to workers where they will be easily viewed. There are three ways in which you can obtain a poster:

  • Order a print copy online from the OSHA Publications Web page.
The English version is publication number 3165. The Spanish version is publication number 3167.
  • Order a print copy by phone by calling 1-800-321-6742 (OSHA) or the OSHA Publications Office at 202-693-1888.
  • Download a copy from the OSHA Web site. Note: OSHA requires that reproductions of the poster to be at least 8.5″ x 14″ inches with 10 point type. It is a requirement that any reproduction meet the requirements of the original poster.
